About Me...

Hi.  Welcome to my website. I’m John G. Fleischmann, Pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, East Moriches, New York.  I am a graduate of Cherry Hill (NJ) High School West (1978), Concordia College, Bronxville New York (1982) and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis Missouri (1986).  I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Church Music and a Master of Divinity Degree.  I am also a Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress and Diplomate of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress (2002). I am a New York State Paramedic, graduating from the Paramedic Program of the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

I am a Pastor in the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.  I served my vicarage (internship) year at Trinity Lutheran Church, Zanesville, Ohio (1984-1985) and was ordained as a Pastor into the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church on Sunday, August 10, 1986 at my home parish, Martin Luther Chapel, Pennsauken, New Jersey by the Rev. H. W. Garton under the auspices of The Rev. Dr. Ronald Fink, Bishop of the Atlantic District.

I served as an Assistant Pastor at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Patchogue, NY from 1986-1990.  I served as Associate Pastor of Emanuel from 1990-1991.

In 1991 I accepted a call as Senior Pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, East Moriches, NY, where I remain today.

I am a liturgical pastor, considering myself to be an “Evangelical Catholic”, holding dear the liturgies of the Church and Sacred Tradition.  I am a member of the Society of the Holy Trinity, an Evangelical Catholic Ministerium where members commit themselves to praying the Daily Offices, Private Confession, and holding to the Confessions of our Church.

I am conservative theologically and politically and do not appreciate some of the modern trends that the church has taken.

I like to write.  Please check out my selected sermons and writings posted elsewhere on this site.

I am also an active Paramedic.  I have been active in Emergency Medical Services since 1976.  I began my avocation in EMS in Cherry Hill, New Jersey in the Cherry Hill Emergency Squad (no longer in existence—it was taken over in September, 2003 by the Cherry Hill Fire Department—an excellent career department that came into existence in 1994 following the consolidation of multiple fire districts).  I became an Emergency Medical Technician in 1978, taking my first EMT class at Camden County College, Blackwood, NJ.

While at Concordia College I continued to serve both in Cherry Hill (when home) and with the Eastchester Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Eastchester, NY.  It was during that time I received my New York State EMT certification. (1978-1982).

When I moved to Patchogue, New York,  I became an active member of the Patchogue Ambulance Company.  I served as Chaplain (1988-Present), Assistant Chief of Operations (1992-23) and Chief (1993-1994). I am a Life Member, but continue to remain somewhat active with them when I have the time.

In 1995, four years after I moved to our new home in Center Moriches, NY, I joined the Center Moriches Fire Department as an EMT/Firefighter.  I remain active with them today, and serve as Department Chaplain.  I also served as Vice President (1996-1999) and as President (3 different times between 1999 and 2004).

I became a New York State Paramedic in June 2001. On top of volunteering, I have worked as a per-diem paramedic with Lenox Hill Hospital (Upper East Side of Manhattan— 2001-2003) and Catholic Health Services (2002-2003).   I presently serve as a per-diem paramedic for Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps as a Paramedic First Responder.

I have been a member of the Suffolk County EMS Critical Incident Stress Management Team since 1990, and its director since 1996.  I was one of the coordinators of the CISM response to the explosion of TWA Flight 800, July 17, 1996, and served as a Police Chaplain for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey following the attacks on the World Trade Center Towers.

For my hobbies I enjoy reading, amateur radio (both construction and operation) and musical composition.

I am married to a great wife, Susan, and have two wonderful daughters, Kate and Laura.
